Foodbank & Refugees
If you have any items for the foodbank (dried and tinned food items, disposable nappies, toiletries), please just bring them along to Church, and I will get them to where they need to be for collection. The request now is for summer clothing for refugees. Thank you for the way you have responded so far.
I am very pleased that I am at last able to tell you that the Rev’d David Higgon is to be appointed by Bishop Mark as Associate Priest at St Mary’s and the Northwest Charge, and will be starting work immediately. This means that he will be sharing the work with me both at St Mary’s and at Achiltibuie, Lochinver and Kinlochbervie. He will do this in a non-stipendiary, part-time capacity – offering up to one Sunday and two other days a week.
Naturally, I am delighted with this development, as I have been hoping and praying since I was licensed at St Mary's more than 8 years ago that I would one day have a colleague to share the priestly duties with me. Well, as we all know, sometimes prayer takes its time in getting answered!
By now, most of you will have met Fr David, as he has been worshipping with us at St Mary’s since the autumn. I know you will want to join me in welcoming him. Please keep David regularly in your prayers as he takes up his post here in the Northwest Charge, and as we all begin a new chapter in the life of this congregation. He brings with him a wealth of experience both in parish and prison ministries.
24th Day Prayers for Israel & Palestine
The Scottish Episcopal Church has been invited to be part of the Scottish ecumenical initiative, promoted by Christian Aid, in praying for Israel/Palestine on the 24th day of every month. This initiative was supported by a motion at General Synod which called for the recognition and support of the Pope’s recent recognition of the State of Palestine and his call for reconciliation. You may want to add this important work of prayer to your prayer diary for the 24th each month.
